For some reason, like a lot of photographers, I’ve been drawn to the margins.
“Interest” takes many forms, but for me, the abandoned car, the empty property, the discarded item - they all hold my interest, because something that was once shiny and new, has been shut up, forgotten, and put out of mind - not sold or moved on. Mishandled.
There’s a story behind the object, but in the images I make, the story is left to the viewer’s imagination.
“If I had a car / house / yacht like this, surely I wouldn’t leave it to rot - what calamity has caused this to happen”.
On Tregonhawke Cliffs in Cornwall, England is one such place.
Pristine ocean coastline, beautiful beaches, and cliffs dotted with cabins and cottages.
One of my favourites is Stone’s Throw, a derelict cabin with an enviable position (top left of the 3rd image below).
My own mishandling (an expired roll of Cinestill 50D) has produced these tobacco hued images.
What memories these walls must hold. The green painted shingles, wet and glistening as a family finishes their pride, a cabin on the cliffs.
It’s a poignant sight among the others, and one I will return to, to check its progress.
I’ve been an avid reader of
for a while now, a cabin is an escape, and this cabin was an escape, and hopefully will be once more soon.
That tobacco hue does give a rather wonderful timelessness to them all. Lovely stuff Irv.
What a beautiful capture in prose and in photography. What an honor to be gifted a spot in this piece. 🌲
